Melges World Championships 2017

Melges 24 World Championships organised by Helsingfors Segelklubb from the 31st of July to 4th of August 2017. I had the honor and pleasure to photograph these World class sailors during Thursday the 3rd in a strong 12-14 m/s wind and clear and sunny weather, woohoo!! WB Sails Round the Buyous 2017, HSK

Traditional windward leeward race organized by Helsingfors Segelklubb (HSK) sailed in light wind and clear sunshine. Winner of the bigger ORC A class was Tea Ekengren / Swan 45 “Blue Nights”, followed by Vesa Särkikangas / Sinergia 40 “Adela” and Jani Lehti / Next 37 “Mercedes-AMG”. Foiling Center, Helsinki

In autumn 2016 the Foiling Center with it’s base at Helsingfors Segelklubb (HSK) received their first foiling boat, a Nacra 20 FCS Carbon. It is the absolute top model in Nacra’s catamaran series. The coming summer 2017 the center will receive a semi-foiling Nacra 15, which is designed for youth sailors. The Nacra 15 will be rebuilt to a fully foiling model during the summer 2017. H-Boat World Championship 2016, HSK

Helsingfors Segelklubb hosting the 4 day long World Championship for H-Boats. The weather conditions have been almost perfect during the regatta and 10 races were completed. Folkboat Gold Cup 2016, HSK

Folkboat Gold Cup, this year in Finland and organized by Helsingfors Segelklubb. This is practically same than the World Championships for this traditional Nordic keelboat class. Total 65 boats competing during one July week. WB Sails Round the Buoys 2016, HSK

For the sixth time in a row and total the eighth time Sailpix photos from the annual windward leeward race for offshore yachts organized by Helsingfors Segelklubb (HSK). Folkboat Finnish Nationals 2015, HSK

First day at the Finnish Championships with altogether 25 yachts competing at the Ytterskär race area. Quite perfect sailing conditions and one of the warmest days of summer. Results at HSK race pages.  

WB Sails Round the Buoys 2015, HSK

The traditional  windward leeward race for off shore sailors sponsored by sail maker “WB Sails”.  It was really nice to see all the best Finnish off shore yachts with some guests from Estonia. Varying weather conditions with both light and stronger wind. 187 photos from race 1 and 2 when the sun was still shining. Results: ORC1, ORC2, ORC3, IRC, X-99

Pro Sailor Race 2015, HSK

Season opening for the Finnish Off Shore sailors and for Sailpix. Race was sailed in light wind which increased during the day with plenty of sunshine. RESULTS ..and a 30 second video from the ORC1 class start.

505 Nordic Championship 2014, HSK

The soon 50 year old 505 class had their Nordic Championship in Helsinki organized by HSK. Photos are from Saturday, second day, first race. Clear sunny weather with 5-7 m/s wind from east following the sun. Final results. Also met (once again) my photographing fellow Kari Wilén, who happens to be a sailor from the only Finnish team which ever won a World Championship medal in this class. This happened 1972 in Hanko, Finland.
